The heat network sector welcomes greater support for domestic heat network customers
This is being achieved through a new subsidy of the whole sale gas cost for heat network operators, to bring unit gas charges down to a level which is a similar to those for domestic customers under the EPG. This will mean that unit heat charges can be significantly reduced from the very high levels we have seen in the market over the last year. This generous support is estimated to be worth around £380m.Furthermore, the industry has long called for a method to deliver demand assurance, coupled with regulation, as an essential underpinnings to growth in this sector and its contribution to net zero.We therefore strongly support the introduction of the Energy Bill and its provisions on heat network zoning and customer regulation.
