The Association has a growing membership, with more than 150 organisations representing a wide range of energy market participants working in heat networks and low carbon heat, demand-side response, energy efficiency and combined heat and power.With public and private investment into the sector, a renewed focus on green jobs, and a market-wide shift towards decentralised generation, smart energy services and customer-led innovation, this role is a key opportunity for the right person.About the roleHow we decarbonise the heating in our homes, businesses and industry is one of the most difficult challenges in reaching net zero but also one of the most fascinating. To get there, we will need an enormous uptake of new infrastructure, new and innovative customer service models and new governance frameworks.Whilst the UK has made significant strides in decarbonising power generation, the vast majority of our heat still comes from natural gas. However, it all starts here: the Government will shortly publish its Heat and Buildings Strategy and Net Zero Strategy which will hopefully kick-start a decades-long transformation.This role is an exceptional opportunity to work directly on a transformation just as it is really getting going and will continue to be crucial to 2050 and beyond.The role will work with large companies investing in large-scale and building-level heat networks, shared ground loops and the wider heat sector, their supply chain, the Government, Scottish Government, Ofgem, Local Authorities and the gas and electricity network operators.The role will have delegated responsibility for preparing formal position papers, briefings, reports and consultation responses and for managing consultation amongst members and stakeholders. It will be responsible for the appraisal of designated policy proposals and developments arising from governments, local authorities, regulators and other stakeholders, for conducting technical, economic and qualitative analysis, and for the preparation of recommendations.Finally, this position will also support the policy team’s broader work. This covers a wide area of public policy, including the electricity, demand-side response, gas and heat markets, renewables, energy efficiency, planning and infrastructure.This is a great opportunity to work in a fast-moving and exciting policy area – bringing together industry and Government to put in place the policy and regulation to ensure a thriving zero carbon heat industry and support the UK to achieve net zero.About youWe are looking for an enthusiastic and proactive person who can become a key part of the policy team. You will be finding innovative ways to achieve tangible improvements in the law, regulation and public policy that will help deliver heat decarbonisation that works for the user.We are looking for someone with strong communication, analytical and organisational skills, who will enjoy working as part of the larger policy team. The candidate should be comfortable analysing and addressing both technical and economic issues and be able to convey complex information effectively to a wide range of audiences. You should be comfortable engaging with new people, making connections, building relationships, and securing support for your ideas.
