Noah Nkonge, Nicky Butterworth and Suneel Appan join the ADE Executive Board
Suneel AppanSuneel is leading Strategic Projects (Energy) at British Sugar, the sole processor of the UK’s sugar beet crop and leading producer of sugar as well as creating a range of co-products including electricity generation for export.Suneel joined the ADE Executive Board in 2022, following a number of years of interaction as a member with specific interest in Combined Heat and Power (CHP) and the Industrial Forum (which he continues to Chair).Suneel is investigating strategic energy projects for British Sugar, with particular interest in alternative and renewable fuels to enable their ongoing decarbonisation efforts in the medium to long-term. This role builds well on Suneel’s most recent role with Associated British Foods (the parent company of British Sugar) leading their energy procurement and commodity price risk management team but also his background in operations, engineering, and projects.Suneel said:"I am thrilled to have been invited to join the ADE’s Executive Board, a welcome opportunity both personally and professionally. Noah NkongeNoah is the Head of Partnerships at Vattenfall Heat UK where he has been instrumental in setting up market-first cross-industry energy partnerships, the first of which was the collaboration between Vattenfall and Viridor in 2020.He has a breadth of experience across the renewable and low carbon energy sector having started his career in engineering consultancy, building on his mechanical engineering degree, before going on to qualify as a Chartered Energy Engineer.During his consultancy days, he delivered renewable and low carbon energy infrastructure masterplans and studies to inform energy policy development at city and national level including pioneering whole energy system transition studies that linked local area planning to national level infrastructure scenario planning. He has also acted in a client advisory capacity on the delivery and procurement of heating and cooling networks.Following a transition to industry with Vattenfall, he held Executive roles before focusing on strategic development and innovation.Noah is passionate about the role energy can play in not only addressing climate change but also transforming society and has an active interest in people development and removing barriers to access. He helped establish the "Diverse Heat Network"- a platform for organisations in the heat networks industry to address skills gaps and create a workforce representative of the society it serves- and he holds a Diploma in Integrative Coaching.Noah said:"I'm excited by my appointment to the ADE Board, where I will be serving the interests of all members as Treasurer. Nicky ButterworthAs Chief Operations Officer at Guru Systems, the data analytics company providing solutions for heat networks and individual heating systems, Nicky is accountable for teams commissioning Guru's hardware, delivering client services, and HR.Nicky joined Guru Systems in 2019 having previously worked in the Heat Networks Policy Team at BEIS, as design lead for the Heat Networks Investment Project (HNIP), and before that, the Heat Networks Delivery Unit (HNDU) at DECC where she led the design of the scheme and administered funding rounds.During her time at BEIS, Nicky was seconded to the Competition and Markets Authority, providing sector expertise to the team of economists and lawyers, shaping the findings of the Heat Networks Market Study.Prior to her time at DECC and BEIS, Nicky worked at the Association for Decentralised Energy (the Combined Heat and Power Association at the time) where she was active in the initiation of the ADE/CIBSE Code of Practice and the Heat Customer Protection Scheme, which later became Heat Trust.
