Role overviewYou will join our growing, close-knit Operations Team, driving the production of our market-leading heat pumps and related products in our leading-edge lean manufacturing production facility.The Kensa group is rapidly expanding and aims to nearly double output every year for the next decade. To facilitate this expansion, we are moving to higher volume manufacturing processes and are expanding our Manufacturing Engineering team. As Manufacturing Systems Engineer, you will be a key member of the team that develops, implements, and manages all aspects of our factory, including production processes, tools, systems, and machines. You will focus on maintenance and development of production systems, especially test systems, as well as providing day-to-day production engineering support to the business.As part of the Production Engineering team, you will ensure we have a fully functional factory at all times, minimising and preventing down time. You will also be a key part of the on-going evolution of the factory to meet Kensa’s growth requirements. You will be a hands-on Engineer, with a can-do attitude and a mind for continuous improvement, used to using solid engineering foundations to deliver excellence in manufacturing processes and systems.Role benefitsKensa aims to be a great place to work. To be a part of that team you will need to meet these role requirements:EXPERIENCE You will have 5 or more years of previous experience in manufacturing engineering in a technical manufacturing business. You will have experience and skills gained designing and implementing production systems, especially test equipment. You will have track record designing, documenting and rolling out production processes and systems.EDUCATIONA Bachelor’s degree or equivelent in engineering, manufacturing or related technical discipline.CHARACTERISTICS Adaptable, analytical and creative - able to innovate to meet the challenges of rapid growth. A good communicator with excellent fluency in spoken and written English and the ability to explain complex issues in non-technical language. Focussed on results and outcomes – used to getting things done. Able to manage your own workload and balance planned work with the day to day demands of a functioning factory. An excellent problem solver with the ability and drive to approach an issue from several angles to find a solution. Able to deal with the pressures and competing demands of an operational factory and prioritising effectively.ESSENTIAL SKILLS Experience in the application of lean six sigma tools, ideally qualified to green belt or above. Familiar with Lean Manufacturing principles and their implementation. Understanding of production process management and controls. Able to train production operatives and to work with them to solve problems and implement solutions. Able to train staff to work with processes and tools.DESIRABLE SKILLS Hands-on engineering of production systems and tools, implementing solutions in both software and hardware. Development and implementation of Test systems and processes.Role responsibilitiesAs Manufacturing Systems Engineer, you will work as part of the Manufacturing Engineering team, delivering all production-related engineering to ensure that we have a world-class production system that delivers the needs of the Kensa business plan as we achieve our rapid growth target.Your main responsibilities will be to: Monitor, maintain and continuously improve production systems and processes, in particular test systems and other production automation systems. Contribute to the production and maintenance of a technical roadmap for the factory and the production system. Apply Lean Manufacturing methods to maximise the performance. Plan and manage on-going factory maintenance to minimise downtime. Manage, maintain and improve processes and systems, machines, tools, jigs, and fixtures. Working with the R&D team, support the transfer to production of new products and product updates, including design and implementation of systems, tools and processes as needed. Use Lean and Six Sigma tools to resolve problems, with a relentless approach to identifying and eliminating root causes. Support the Technical Support and Quality Team to resolve customer complaints. Promote safety on site and ensure safe operations in production and engineering activities.WORKBASEThis role will be based at the Kensa Factory in Chacewater, Truro.REPORTING STRUCTUREYou will report to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager.
