Guy’s and St Thomas’ launches tender for a Strategic Energy Partner to support estate decarbonisation
Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust are looking to select a Strategic Energy Partner to help achieve the decarbonisation of their estate, becoming the first NHS Trust in the UK to go to market with Energy as a Service (EaaS) procurement of this kind and at this scale.
On 17 February 2025 the Trust has issued a Find a Tender Service (FTS) Notice advertising the opportunity, with the first document the interested suppliers need to complete being the Selection Questionnaire (SQ). With a SQ submission deadline of 20 March 2025, the bidder selection is expected to be announced in the second half of 2025, with the framework agreement going live at the end of the year.
In the initial phase, the Trust is looking to source green heat and power from a private sector Energy Services Company (ESCo) under an EaaS modelfor St Thomas’ Hospital, with the successful bidder offered access to a pipeline of future decarbonisation projects with the Trust under the Framework Agreement.
The decarbonisation solution designed for the St Thomas’ site is expected to supply 37 GWh of heat annually and help the Trust to contribute to the NHS’s mission to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2040, with an ambition to reach an 80% reduction by 2032.
Amberside Advisors, commercial and financial transaction advisors, has been retained by the Trust as the advisors in connection with this procurement. The project is also supported by Capsticks legal advisors, Buro Happold technical advisors and EcoVate procurement advisors. All communications should be directed via the Atamis portal.
Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, consisting of five main hospitals, as well as several services supporting the wider community in Lambeth and Southwark, London, is one of the largest trusts in the UK, employing 23,600 staff and generating an annual turnover of £2.9 bn.
