First results from Demand Flexibility Service very encouraging
National Grid ESO's (Electricity System Operator) Demand Flexibility Service (DFS) has now held its first six test periods, which have seen participating households and businesses being paid to turn down non-essential energy usage at times of peak national demand to help balance the electricity grid over the winter period.
Sarah Honan, Flexibility Policy Manager at the ADE, said: "We're encouraged by the results from the first six DFS tests and the level of participation in the service. This winter, and the past two weeks in particular, has been challenging for homes and businesses across the UK and ensuring we take as many lessons as possible from the DFS will be absolutely crucial for the success of future iterations."
