They distribute heat or cooling from a central source(s) and deliver it to a variety of different customers such as public buildings, shops, offices, hospitals, universities and homes. In urban areas, they are often the lowest cost, low carbon heating option. This is because they offer a communal solution that can provide heat to a range of homes and businesses by capturing or generating heat locally. The Committee on Climate Change recommends that their market share needs to grow to 18% by 2050, from around 3% currently. To unlock this growth we have an exciting Heat Networks Transformation Programme (HNTP), incorporating all the Department's work supporting the sector. The HNTP consists of our work to develop projects on the ground through the Heat Networks Delivery Unit, our capital support schemes of the Heat Networks Investment Project, the Green Heat Networks Fund and the Heat Networks Efficiency Scheme and our work to support and regulate the market through our Heat Networks Market Framework and Heat Network Zoning. All of this is focused on growing the market for low carbon heat networks to achieve its potential, securing investment of £60-£80 billion by 2050.With such an exciting breadth of activity comes a fantastic team. The team is approximately 80 people which contains a strong mix of policy, technical and commercial experience and skills. The Department has put wider resources in place to meet the objectives of the programme, with over £500m of capital support, a healthy annual budget and a Ministerial priority you will have what you need to deliver successfully.Find out more: https://www.civilservicejobs.service.gov.uk/csr/jobs.cgi?jcode=1858093
