Decentralised energy sector reacts to CCC Progress Report
Making electricity cheaper and accelerating the electrification of industrial heat are just two of the recommendations made today by the Climate Change Committee (CCC) in their Progress Report. Ten recommendations have been made from analysis that shows that the UK’s 2030 emissions reduction target is at risk.
Jess Savoie, Industrial Policy Officer at the Association for Decentralised Energy (ADE) said: “The news that UK emissions levels are less than half of what they were in 1990 has been drastically overshadowed by the news that our 2030 emissions reduction target is at risk.
“For the UK to get back on track and become a climate leader on the world stage, actions must be taken that prioritise the roll out of decentralised energy technologies. The Government must set out a clear and strategic path to decarbonise industry, and we support the CCC’s recommendation that accelerating the electrification of industrial heat should be a priority. However, with half of industrial emissions occurring outside dedicated hydrogen and carbon capture zones, equal focus is needed on how we decarbonise industry at a more local level. Working with the recommendations set out by the CCC will mean that we can work towards, and not against, our obligations to address the climate crisis, all whilst creating the economic prosperity across the UK.”
