BEIS have published competitions on energy flexibility and storage

1) Flexibility exchange demonstration projects: FleX competitionThe FleX competition will support the development and demonstration of innovative solutions to value and trade flexibility. This competition is looking for innovative and replicable flexibility exchange solutions which provide marketplaces for multiple flexibility products, offered by multiple providers (sellers) of flexibility to multiple buyers.The flexibility to be traded could be provided by domestic or business consumers from a range of sources, including: energy storage demand-side response (DSR) and demand reduction; or generationUp to £4 million will be available, from 2019 to 2021. The competition is expected to support up to 3 demonstration exchange projects to be operational by March 2021 with final trials and reporting to be completed by December 2021.How to applyThis competition is now live. Please email smart.innovation@beis.gov.uk to register interest in attending the information event.2) Storage at Scale competitionThis competition is looking for innovative, replicable solutions which could provide a market competitive alternative to conventional commercial large scale energy storage technologies, for example pumped-hydro or batteries (such as lithium ion, lead acid or sodium-sulphur).A range of electrical energy storage technologies are within scope, with a target minimum output power of 30 MW or minimum capacity of 50 MWh. Power-to-X technologies (e.g. power-to-gas) with a target minimum input power of 5 MW are also in scope.Up to £20 million will be available from 2019 to 2021.
