Job Title: Senior Researcher – Energy and the Green New Deal (full time)Working For: Alan Whitehead MP (Southampton Test)Location: LondonSalary: £38,000-£44,000 dependent on experienceLength of Contract: Permanent Job DetailsAlan is looking for someone with a strong record of policy, research and campaigning work on energy, climate change, Green New Deal and Green Recovery issues, a solid understanding of parliament and the political landscape, and excellent written and oral communication skills.Job description Advise on frontbench policy issues connected to Alan’s frontbench role Maintain and utilise knowledge of political and policy landscape to campaign for ambitious net zero policy and effect change Lead on scrutinising Government energy and green recovery work Manage Alan’s day to day parliamentary activity Prepare and present written and oral briefings for committees, scrutinise legislation, write parliamentary questions, articles and press releases Lead Bill scrutiny teams as required, forming opinion, discussing objectives, engaging with stakeholders, writing amendments and speech notes Manage projects in co-ordination with Ed Miliband’s office and wider frontbench teams Stay consistently up to date on latest research, discussion, stakeholder positioning, media and upcoming parliamentary business and ensure Alan is briefedPerson specification An outstanding awareness of both policy and politics surrounding climate change, energy, green recovery and the Green New Deal A demonstrable ability to research and provide comprehensive, accurate and up to date briefing and report writing, on complex policy issues in relation to Alan’s frontbench brief Demonstrable experience of influencing decision-makers, both internally and externally, effectively campaigning for policy change Experience of monitoring information flows to stay at the cutting edge of issues as they develop Experience of engaging with and responding to policy stakeholders, the research community, campaigners and the media Ability to work both independently and part of a small team, initiating tasks, running projects and driving them to completion Understanding of Parliamentary procedures, debates, questions and legislation Some experience monitoring media coverage, liaising with media, and preparing tweets, press releases and quotes as required Sympathy with the values and objectives of the Labour Party, and a demonstrable commitment to equality, rights and social justiceUpon appointment you will be required to comply with the Baseline Personnel Security Standard, undertaken by the Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO).
