ADE echoes the CCC’s annual report; government needs to step up delivery on heat decarbonisation
The Government needs to step up its plans for the decarbonisation of heat and stop kicking the can down the road on energy efficiency policy, says the Association for Decentralised Energy (ADE).Caroline Bragg, Director of Policy and Research at the ADE, said:The Climate Change Committee’s opinion of the Government’s progress on net zero: Ambitious plans but lacking in delivery. Delivery in particular has been far too slow and meaningful policy is lacking when it comes to heating and buildings. Due to a continual side-lining of energy efficiency policy, emissions from buildings have remained relatively flat over the last decade, when we should be seeing a decline. The ADE as called in the past for an investment framework for owner occupier retrofits to unlock a wealth of private finance and the CCC agrees - particularly singling out the lack of good policy on owner-occupier retrofit. The report also highlights that the government is falling far short on its plans for low carbon heat networks. There needs to be more ambitious plans to decarbonise the heat sector, which we hope to see in the upcoming energy bill. You can read the report here: https://www.theccc.org.uk/publication/2022-progress-report-to-parliament/
