Energy consumption totalled 30% of all operating costs before an energy audit was initiated. Monitoring equipment was fitted to the hotel's circuit boards to identify problem areas. Many of the circuit boards were unmarked, meaning the hotel did not know where some of their energy was being consumed. Once the circuits had been marked, it was identified that lighting was a primary issue.
After running a pilot project on one circuit board, which resulted in a 64% reduction in energy consumption, LED lights, equipment and behavioural changes were rolled out across the building.
The Maldron is now rolling out LED lamps to all suitable areas. These pilot projects in equipment change and behavioural changes has helped the Maldron exceed the target of 10% reduction in energy consumption within three month period.
