ENER-G was contracted to install a 25kWe CHP unit to supply electricity and 38kWe per hour of heating and hot water for the leisure centres buildings and swimming pool. An externally located energy centre was deemed to be most suitable for the site, but interfaces seamlessly with the existing services and pipework.
The unit is around 85% efficient, and was projected to save around 50 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year, based on running 17 hours a day. The financial savings were predicted to be aroubd £5,000 a year.
