MVV Environment operates an Energy from Waste facility in Plymouth with an annual capacity of 245,000 tonnes and a Biomass facility at Ridham Dock (Kent), which uses 172,000 tonnes of old and waste wood for the generation of usable energy.
MVV's Plymouth facility provides a waste treatment solution for the South West Devon Waste Partnership. The plant handles around 245,000 tonnes of household, commercial and industrial waste each year from Plymouth, Devon and Torbay and generates up to 22.5MW of electricity and 23.3MW of usable heat and steam. Much of the steam and electricity is used to heat and power the neighbouring Dockyard and Naval Base with the potential to connect local homes in the future.
MMV’s Biomass CHP site at Ridham Dock in Sittingbourne, Kent processes around 172,000 tonnes of waste wood per year. Until the site became operational much of this old and used wood would have been exported to the continent for processing.
