BEIS Select Committee report on Energy Efficiency - Association of Decentralised Energy's response

The Committee’s report sets out clearly the failings in Government policy in this area and calls for an immediate step change in Government action on the refurbishment of the UK’s building stock.ADE Members can acccess a briefing on the report by clicking here.Dr Joanne Wade, Deputy Director at the Association for Decentralised Energy (ADE), saidThe core role of energy efficiency in delivering a just and affordable transition to zero carbon is clear.  The Association for Decentralised Energy has been calling on Government to urgently introduce incentives to drive investment by householders and businesses in energy efficiency, alongside additional funding for those who cannot afford to pay.  These incentives are critical to ensuring that energy efficiency can deliver a net zero carbon future.We support the Committee’s call for energy efficiency to be designated a national infrastructure priority, and its call for a review of public funding with the potential for an additional £1billion investment per annum.  It is also vital that the Government publishes its energy efficiency Action Plan without further delay and explains how it intends to meet the EPC Band C 2035 target to radically improve the overall energy efficiency of the UK’s leaky housing stockThe investment in energy efficiency that follows will not only help to ensure that we meet our carbon targets, it will also drive improvements in health and wellbeing, and in business productivity.  Making all our buildings fit for the future is an aim that industry stands ready to deliver, when the right policy framework is in place.
